Zion is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in the Southeastern Iowa Synod. We are one of three churches in Princeton, Iowa, midway between the Quad Cities and Clinton.
We are grateful for 169 wonderful years of worship, service, and fellowship! The Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to gather together in word and sacrament. We have given of ourselves and our resources so that we can make a difference in our community and in the world.
Beginning in 1852, people in the Princeton area began to gather at Salem Lutheran Church, and Zion Lutheran Church was formed in 1888. By 1922, these two congregations merged to become the gathered people we are today. The town of Princeton has changed a lot over the years, yet Zion Lutheran continues to be an important place for the Princeton community. Right on the highway, this church is an important symbol of Christ active in the world.
We are a mighty church, doing great things with the few people and resources which our Lord has blessed us. The promise of the resurrection keeps us going as we remember our baptism and enjoy the feast of communion. We study scripture and ask God to be present among us. Each year, we liturgically live out Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, which renews us in faith. Our old traditions remain alive even as we begin new traditions, too.
Thank you for visiting our website. We pray that you are inspired to visit us in person, too!
